Old Phones for Charity Launch
Thursday, January 24th, 2008
Sagient announces the launch of the Old Phones for Charity web site. Old Phones for Charity is a program run by ReCellular, Inc, the world’s largest recycler of used cellular phones and accessories. ReCellular partnered with the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association’s (CTIA) Wireless Foundation on the original Donate a Phone charitable recycling program, and has since developed long-standing relationships with key industry players such as Verizon Wireless, Motorola, Sprint and Best Buy. Over the last 20 years, ReCellular’s programs have generated approximately $50 million for its charitable partners.
OldPhonesforCharity.com is a web site where individuals can go to recycle their old cell phone and choose one of 6 charities to donate the proceeds to.
“Did you know that recycling your old cell phones can help two worthy causes at the same time? First, you can help the charity of your choice. When you send them a phone, they test it, clean it, and sell it. Proceeds go to charity! Second, recycling your old phones keeps them out of landfills and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. The EPA estimates that we throw away 150 million cell phones a year, so your efforts can really help to reduce waste and pollution!”
Sagient produced a small but easy to use web site that could immediately take advantage of the growing concern worldwide about the e-waste problem. A few simple steps and you can print your mailing label, put your old phone in a small box and mail it free of charge to Receullular for processing. It’s that simple!
The site featured a fresh new look and feel, easy to use navigation and a simplified process for mailing the old phones. On the back end Sagient added simple bar codes and live, pre-return addressing information to the mailing label that ensured proper tracking once the phones reach their destination.
Oh… and be sure to look for the site as it makes appearances on local and national news stations as part of a national public relations tour!
